State of Data Software Survey 2024

The survey conducted on data analysts revealed that Microsoft's Excel and Power BI are the most popular data analysis software, with 65% and 46% usage respectively. Tableau was also widely used by almost half of the respondents, while Qlik had a strong showing with 23% usage. Python, although not included in the survey, is growing in popularity among analysts. The survey found that data software lag persists, with ⅓ of respondents reporting software lag on every project and 94.2% reporting lag on at least some projects. This process can take up to 8 hours for almost a third of companies, and for the slowest 10%, it can take more than a full business day. Python is necessary for modern data analysts, but most respondents said that more Python programming expertise is holding back otherwise capable data analysts. Data visualization is crucial, but 88% of analysts said that the difficulty of making these visualizations is reducing the impact of their findings.
